Task 2)
IRC, which is short for Internet Relay Chat, is a chat system developed in the late 1980s by Jarkko Oikarinen in Finland. Since it enabled people connected anywhere through the internet to join in live discussions, it has become popular as more people were getting connected to the internet at that period of time. IRC was not limited to just two people talk at the same time. IRC client and internet access are needed to operate IRC. IRC client is a program that sends and receives messages to and from IRC server. Therefore, there can be many communications going on at once. IRC networks served more than half a million users at a time, with lots of channels operating on a total of about 1,500 servers out of about 3,200 servers worldwide. Internet Relay Chat (IRC) gave birth to the modern chat movement. IRC is the most widely used Internet chat system, and as seems often to be the case with Internet technologies.
